We provide primary health care for a population of approx 4000 in a rural part of Mid Canterbury 30 mins from Ashburton where there is a General Hospital with Maternity services, and 90 mins from Christchurch Public Hospital. We belong to Pegasus PHO.
The practice was formed in 1985 with the construction of the original building, which was extended and renovated in 2011. Currently we have 5 GP’s, 1 GP registrar and a Nurse Practitioner. The practice also employs an office manager, 4 receptionists, 4 practice nurses and 2 relieving practice nurses.
The medical centre is equipped to deal with all primary care. We have a small Xray unit for peripheral radiology and also have plastering facilities. Nurses take blood specimens, with courier pick up 3 times a day.
PHO funded Services, consulting as required:
- District Nurses, based in our rooms but contracted by Ashburton Hospital
Other Private Services:
- Osteopath – weekly
- Podiatrist – monthly
- Physiotherapist – in separate rooms within our building
The ambulance service is provided by St John First Response Team. We are PRIME doctors and nurses, and therefore can respond to all 111 calls in our area. We work with the Rakaia Medical Centre providing after hours services in a proportional roster system.
Appointments are available between 8:30am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday.
Winter weekend clinic hours operate from July to October by appointment between the hours of 9am to 5pm.
Over Summer both Rakaia and Methven hold weekend clinics when on duty by appointment.
After hours care is shared with Rakaia Medical Centre between October and June. Please contact the Medical Centre on 03 302 8105 for hours and location information. When we are not on, our answerphone message directs people to Rakaia or the after hours phone service
